About Lyric
Lyric is a Master Loctician, entrepreneur, educator, operator, and community builder whose work sits at the intersection of beauty, business, culture, and transformation.
Her path into the loc industry did not begin behind the chair. Long before locs became her profession, Lyric spent 13 years learning how profitable businesses, strong teams, and enduring cultures are built from the inside.
-
During her career with Starbucks, Lyric became the leader called when multimillion-dollar locations were operating in the red and needed to be turned around quickly. Working within 60- to 90-day performance windows, she was responsible for restoring profitability and producing double-digit comparable sales growth.
The work required an intimate understanding of inventory, labor, hiring, training, customer experience, systems, culture, profitability, and people. She learned how to enter high-pressure environments, identify what was not working, rebuild teams, establish standards, develop leaders, and produce measurable results.
Those years shaped the way Lyric would eventually approach entrepreneurship. She learned that talent alone does not create sustainable success. Strong businesses require structure, accountability, culture, systems, clear standards, and leadership capable of moving people toward a shared result.
Long before Locs by Lyric existed, those skills were already being developed.
-
Lyric also learned that meaningful change rarely begins with permission.
At a national Starbucks management conference in Chicago, after nearly eight years with the company, she discovered that other major demographic groups had activated cultural partner networks. Until that moment, she had never known those resources existed.
She immediately recognized what was missing for Black partners in California and saw an opportunity to create greater belonging, connection, retention, and professional community while helping the company more fully live the values it publicly represented.
The task was not small. People around her questioned whether she wanted to take it on. She was told it had not been done before.
She built it anyway.
Lyric conceived the initiative, scheduled and led the meetings, cultivated relationships from her base in San Francisco to Diversity & Inclusion leadership in Seattle, secured the support she needed, and followed the work through to completion.
Her initiative established the first California chapter of Starbucks’ Black Partner Network.
The recognition came later. Lyric would eventually be celebrated regionally by company leadership for bringing the chapter to life, but the accomplishment had already taught her something more important.
When she could clearly see what was missing, she did not need an existing blueprint to begin building it.
That principle would follow her throughout her career:
See what is missing. Learn what is necessary. Build what should exist.
-
When Lyric entered the loc industry professionally, she was new to the industry.
She was not new to building successful businesses.
She brought an operator’s mind into a craft she became relentless about mastering.
Thousands of hours were dedicated to understanding not only how locs look, but how they are created, maintained, damaged, repaired, reconstructed, and preserved. At the same time, she applied the systems, profitability, leadership, culture, education, and customer-experience principles she had already spent more than a decade developing.
That intersection became Locs by Lyric.
Today, Lyric specializes in advanced loc restoration, reconstruction, corrective work, and transformation. She has served thousands of clients, trained more than 30 beauty professionals, and developed a reputation for combining technical precision with education, professionalism, and exceptional care.
Her work has also connected her with brands and platforms including Vogue, Olay, and Forever 21.
Lyric does not claim the longest tenure in the loc industry.
Her career demonstrates something different:
Tenure and impact are not the same measurement.
Her distinction is the ability to understand both the person in the chair and the infrastructure surrounding the chair.
She understands technique and client care, but she also understands the systems, standards, profitability, culture, leadership, education, and operational discipline required to make excellence sustainable.
That combination of craft mastery and business infrastructure became the foundation for everything she would build next.
Everything Lyric Built Solved a Problem
The businesses Lyric created did not begin as exercises in expansion. Each grew from something she experienced, needed, or believed should exist.
Locs Meet West
Her 501©(3) community initiative, came from one of the greatest gifts her own loc journey gave her: community.
After spending years feeling alone in certain corporate, entrepreneurial, and personal spaces, loc culture connected Lyric with a chosen family of professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, thinkers, and leaders. She was so proud of the substance of the people she encountered that she wanted to give them the gift of one another.
Locs Meet West became a space for connection, culture, and community centered around people who genuinely value and appreciate locs.
Lyric Naturals
The product line came from wanting better for her clients.
Products marketed as natural or organic often told a different story when she turned the bottle around and read the ingredients. Rather than recommend products she could not fully stand behind, Lyric began creating the products she wanted her clients to have herself.
6 Figure Loc Academy
The academy was born from the mentorship she wished she had.
Much of Lyric’s early journey in the loc industry was built alone. Some mentorship came at significant financial cost and still left her without a strong framework for profitability. Other environments lacked the culture and support necessary to truly thrive. Those gaps cost money, time, confidence, and peace.
She created the Academy to shorten that learning curve for other professionals. Technical education is paired with pricing, positioning, profitability, systems, client experience, and professional standards so talented locticians do not have to spend years discovering what can be taught.
Lyric Global
Almost everything visible today was built largely without inherited wealth, family financing, or a traditional safety net.
Lyric invested her own resources. She cashed out her 401(k). She experienced housing instability. She sacrificed weekends, relationships, personal time, and certainty while people questioned why she would leave corporate America to become a loctician or whether a sustainable living could even be built from the craft.
The businesses exist not because the path was heavily encouraged.
They exist because she built them anyway.
But Lyric no longer believes meaningful impact requires isolation.
She has reached a point where being one of the industry’s best-kept secrets no longer serves the community at the level she is capable of serving it.
Visibility has become part of the work.
Lyric Global exists to extend her knowledge, perspective, education, collaborations, and influence beyond the physical reach of her chair. It brings together beauty, business, culture, wellness, lifestyle, leadership, travel, community, and thought leadership.
It also reflects a larger mission: helping advance a stronger global standard for loc technique, education, customer experience, professionalism, and care.
For Lyric, greater visibility is not simply about more people knowing her name.
It is about increasing the radius of what becomes possible because she is willing to be seen.
Her work represents the beauty professional turning talent into economic independence. The mother building a livelihood with the skill in her hands. The professional entering corporate spaces in locs without accepting the idea that professionalism requires abandoning identity. It supports the normalization of locs as professional, sophisticated, versatile, and beautiful.
It supports stronger education, better client care, entrepreneurship, ownership, community, and people willing to challenge the status quo.
Lyric understands the underdog because she has repeatedly built from that position.
She did not begin with the longest résumé in her industry, the largest network, or guaranteed financial support.
What she brought was the ability to learn, build, lead, endure, and execute.
Locs became the foundation.
They were never meant to be the boundary.
Today, Lyric’s work spans craft, entrepreneurship, education, products, nonprofit community building, and an expanding global platform.
Thousands of clients have trusted her hands. Professionals have trusted her mind. Communities have trusted her leadership.
And in many ways, the work is still beginning.
There are more professionals to develop, more standards to raise, more communities to connect, more cities and countries to enter, and more lives to impact.
Lyric spent years building the evidence.
Now it is time to illuminate it.
